Who teaches it?

FertilityCare Practitioners (FCPs) are trained through the Saint Paul VI Institute in a rigourous13-month educational program and supervised internship. FCPs are skilled at educating women and couples in accurately charting the woman's menstrual cycles using the Creighton Model, enabling them to make family planning decisions as a couple and allowing them to understand and safeguard their reproductive health.

How it works:

The primary hormones involved in fertility also act upon the cervix (the lowermost portion of the uterus).

In the days leading up to ovulation, estrogen stimulates the cervix to produce a characteristic mucus. Shortly after ovulation, progesterone causes this mucus to change significantly. Through accurate observations and with proper training, a woman can reliably determine when ovulation is approaching and when it has passed, as well as approximate the preovulatory and postovulatory phases of her own cycle, assess the quality of her mucus (a key factor for fertility), and understand many other biomarkers of her reproductive system.  Unlike many other natural family planning models, the Creighton Model can be used in all situations of a woman's reproductive years including in breastfeeding, long or irregular cycles, anovulatory cycles, perimenopause, etc.
No pills, prescriptions, side effects, machines, or testing strips needed!

Effectiveness:

When used as a means of avoiding pregnancy, it has a method-effectiveness of 99.5% and a use-effectiveness of 96.8%. When used as a means of achieving pregnancy, 98% of couples with normal fertility are successful within 6 months. (Studies published by Dr. Hilgers et al. in the Journal of Reproductive Medicine, 1998/Vol 43 and 1992/Vol 37, respectively.) Furthermore, couples struggling with infertility can improve their chances of conception by learning how to accurately identify their days of peak fertility, and address biomarkers that may be indicating problems in certain parts of the reproductive system.

Creighton Model System, the foundation of NaProTechnology:

The Creighton Model is the foundation of NaProTechnology, the powerful women's health approach that utilizes the information obtained through charting with the Creighton Model. The many biomarkers found in the Creighton chart help a woman and her NaProTechnology Medical Consultant see signs that would suggest infertility, PCOS, endometriosis, insufficient progesterone, risk of miscarriage, PMS, and other problems. NaPro protocols are also very effective for women who are currently pregnant with a history of miscarriage and other obstetric problems, and who are currently suffering from post-partum depression. The Creighton chart enables NaPro providers to develop a treatment plan that cooperates with the woman's cycle.
